About Us
Karlayura Rodeo Inc. is an Indigenous-led, not-for-profit association committed to celebrating rodeo talent, promoting regional tourism, and fostering cultural connection across the Pilbara. Through events like the Roebourne Rodeo, we aim to create a lasting impact by supporting local businesses, building community capability, and showcasing the rich spirit of regional WA.
The name "Karlayura," meaning ‘little red dragonfly,’ honours the legacy of Mr. Brian Tucker, also known as ‘B.T.’—a respected leader, Aboriginal Elder, Director of Karlayura Group, and co-founder of our Rodeo Club. His vision and leadership remain integral to our mission and values.

Brian 'B.T' Tucker
CO FOUNDER
A proud Banjima & Nyiyaparli Elder from Karijini, Brian Tucker affectionately known as "BT" has spent a lifetime championing culture, community, and opportunity for his people. He believes knowledge is a fire that must never fade, passed from one generation to the next to ensure the strength of tradition.
The founding of Karlayura Rodeo Inc. in 2022 marked the realisation of a lifelong dream: to create greater rodeo opportunities in the Pilbara while uniting heritage, resilience, and community. As Karlayura Rodeo embarks on its next chapter here on Ngarluma country in Roebourne, Brian envisions the association as a lasting pillar of connection and tradition, one that secures opportunities for future generations across the Pilbara.
Brian's journey began as a stockman before transitioning into business, where he founded a thriving, 100% Aboriginal-owned mining services company that has flourished for over two decades. His work has always been guided by a singular mission: to bring family back to country and build self-sustaining communities that empower Indigenous enterprise and cultural preservation.
For Brian, Karlayura Rodeo Inc. is more than just an annual event—it’s about creating pathways to success for Indigenous riders. As he puts it, "If these guys can go from here to the US, they can achieve something that no-one would probably think of doing." Through his visionary leadership, Karlayura Rodeo Inc. continues to grow, strengthening ties to country, community, and economic independence. This association stands as a legacy designed to uplift and sustain Indigenous traditions for generations to come.

Tui Magner
CO FOUNDER
A longtime Karratha resident cowgirl originally from New Zealand, Tui Magner has dedicated most of her life to rodeo not just as a competitor, but as a mentor, leader, and advocate for the sport's future. Rodeo has carried her across the world, opening doors for her and her family.
Beyond the arena, Tui plays a pivotal role in shaping rodeo’s future as a National Board Director, where she champions greater opportunities, inclusion, and sustainability within the sport. Her work is grounded in mentorship and a deep commitment to fostering long-term opportunities for aspiring cowboys and cowgirls.
Her journey took a pivotal turn in 2021 when she met Brian Tucker ‘BT’ and learned of his vision for Karlayura and Rodeo. Recognising its significance for the Pilbara, she became a driving force in bringing the dream to life. The establishment of Karlayura Rodeo Inc. in 2022 was more than just the launch of running an annual event, it was the creation of a platform dedicated to growth, opportunity, and legacy, deeply rooted in the values of community, tradition, and country.
For Tui, Karlayura Rodeo Inc. is not just about delivering a rodeo it’s about offering a platform for storytelling, strengthening communities, and ensuring future generations in the region she chooses to call home have access to the opportunities as she did. Through her leadership, Karlayura Rodeo Inc. continues to grow, providing young riders with a space to learn, develop, and thrive within the sport she has cherished for a lifetime.
